Harvey wins Links' crown
By Philip Croucher

August 10, 2001

Scott Harvey of Brantford, Ont., fired a final round even par 72 Thursday to capture the Bank of Montreal
Future Links Atlantic Championship by one stroke over three golfers at the Bell Bay Golf Club in Baddeck.
Harvey, who began the round in a three-way tie for first, finished one shot ahead Nova Scotian’s Andre
Aymar of Meteghan, David Williamson of Halifax and Josh Burbidge of Newport.
All three Nova Scotian’s finished the 54-hole tournament at 224.
Harvey played in the final group with Burbidge and first-round leader Matthew Rogers of New Minas, N.S.
Rogers tallied a 75 Thursday to finish alone in fifth, while Burbidge shot a 73.
The top Cape Bretoner at the championship was Matthew Davis of Bell Bay, who fired a closing round 81
to finish in a three-way tie for 19th at 238.
The best round by a Cape Bretoner Thursday went to Ethan Ardelli of Lingan, who shot a 77 Thursday to
finish in 22nd spot with a 239 total.
“I was happier,” said Ardelli, who shot an 83 and 79 respectively during the opening two rounds. “I played
a lot better than what it turned out to be. I just couldn’t make any birdies and just nothing seemed to go
right for me in this tournament.”
While disappointed with his overall finish at his first Future Links event, Ardelli is hoping to use the
experience he garnered from the tournament for next week when he tees it up at the Canadian junior
provincial boys golf championship at Ken-Wo.

Locals slip further back in junior play
By Philip Croucher

It wasn’t the greatest of days for a pair of Cape Bretoners in contention at the Bank of Montreal Future Links Atlantic Championship Wednesday at the Par 72, 6,546-yard Bell Bay Golf Club in Baddeck.
Matthew Davis of Bell Bay dropped from seventh to 14th position following a second round 82 Wednesday to put him at 157 for the tournament, while Aaron Barrington of Seaview Golf and Country Club tallied an 84 to stand at 161 for the championship, good for 24th spot.
Barrington went into Wednesday’s round in a tie for 14th, five strokes behind tournament leader Matthew Rogers of New Minas.
Rogers still remains in the lead following Wednesday’s round, but has some company at the top now. Joining Rogers in a three-way tie for first are Josh Burbidge of Newport, N.S., and Scott Harvey of Brantford, Ont., who all stand at 151 for the championship.

Rogers shot a 79 Wednesday, while Burbidge tallied a 74 and Harvey a 78.
Just one stroke behind the trio of golfers are Marc Bourgeois of Dieppe, N.B., and Andre Aymar of Meteghan, N.S., who shot 79 and 77 respectively Wednesday.
Alone in sixth is David Williamson of Halifax, who fired a 75 during the second round to stand at 153.
“I’m pretty disappointed, but when you look at the scores, they are all pretty close,” said Davis, who is one of 17 golfers within six strokes of the lead. “Even one shot could make quite a lot of difference.”
